Zbigniew Gutkowski is one of the most well-known and experienced Polish sailors, who was the first Polish sailor who took part in lone ocean races around the earth.

 

He is a scholar of sailing from 10 years of age. In the years 1987-1995 he was a member of the national team in the Olympic 470 class and has held top positions in Polish and international regattas. While sailing in the 49er class won more awards and top positions in the rankings. In 2000. He began his adventure with sailing the ocean.

So far he completed two races around the Earth - manned (The Race regatta, 2000) and solo (race Velux 5 Oceans, 2010/11). He has more than 130,000 nautical miles of laps class yachts: 85ft catamaran, Multihull Orma 60 and Vor-60, IMOC 60 and 60. Eco participation in the race Vendee Globe is the next step in his sailing career.

In 2005. He took part in the race Nokia Oops Cup as skipper Orma 60 trimaran Bonduelle. He also tried to break the world record for circumnavigation without calling at a port monohull sailing boat Volvo 60 BPH.

At the turn of 2010 and 2011, was the first Pole in history took part in stage races okołoziemskich loners VELUX 5 OCEANS. Velux 5 Oceans has completed a great success - despite the failure of the yacht and two serious injuries he completed the race on 2nd position so permanently inscribed in the history of world yachting.

For his achievements awarded the title of Sailor of the Year 2011, Voyage of the Year, Amber Rose of the Winds, Silver sextant. He was twice nominated for the Gdansk’s Person Of the Year.
